SoundSeeing Rome Piazza del Popolo - If you think the current customs checks are irritating, then think about the pilgrims who wanted to enter Rome via the Porta del Popolo. The security check that they had to endure was much more dubious. The visitors scattered themselves all over Rome via the Popolo Piazza. They came mainly for Saint Peter’s, but probably also viewed the works of Raphael and Caravaggio in the Maria Church located here on the piazza.
