Aerosound - To revalidate or renew a class 1 pilot license, a hearing test on cockpit noise is mandatory for applicants with hypoacousis in order to qualify their hearing standards*.
Aerosound has been created for pilots to enable them to pass the required medical test for hearing. Aerosound provides a database of speech (Air traffic control messages) and aero equipment sounds recorded on state of the art audio equipment in order to playback the same noises that pilots have in typical real-life flight environments. These sounds are repeated so that pilots must interpret them correctly to qualify their hearing sensitivity. By succeeding with Aerosound tests, pilots can then be medically approved to maintain their pilot license.
Aerosound has a dedicated team for recording cockpits noise and it therefore constantly expanding its capacities for airlines (Cessna, Fokker, Abeille), aircrafts (Airbus A-300, A-320, Boeing 747), helicopters (R-22) to start with and the availability to test new ATC messages from different countries.
The current version of Aerosound has several hundred cockpit noises and ATC messages recorded in Belgium, France, Spain, United Kingdom, China...and soon the USA, India and Emirates. All ATC messages have been recorded during genuine flight.
The tests are in accordance with the JAR-FCL 3 3.235 (c - d), Paragraph 2 Appendix 16 to Subpart B and C and the JAA Manual of Civil Aviation Medicine, Chapter 14, ORL 4.4 Speech Audiometry.
