Dark Souls has a minimalistic plot and it is mostly left up to the player to put the pieces of the story together. The opening cutscene begins in primeval times, where the world was unformed and the immortal Everlasting Dragons held sole dominion over all. The First Flame was ignited from an unknown source, which brought disparity in the form of light and dark. Within the flame, four beings discovered the Lord Souls and became godlike entities: Nito, the First of the Dead; the Witch of Izalith; Gwyn, the Lord of Sunlight; and the Furtive Pygmy.
