VFS Exchange - A utility which allows one to install sounds, Java MIDlets, and other files into the appropriate application.
The effect is much like beaming the file to the handheld.
Some examples:
* MIDI (.mid), WAVE (.wav), QCELP (.qcp), and Adaptive Multi-Rate ACELP (.amr) files can be installed into the sound database, for use as ringtones or alarms, on some devices such as the Treo 650 and 700p.
* Java Midlets in .jar files can be installed into IBM's J9 Java environment.
* HTML (.html) files can be viewed in a web browser [*]. This is useful if your web browser does not allow you to open files, or requires arcane URLs to do so.
* Text (.txt) files (indeed, almost any kind of file) can be imported into a memo or text editor.
* VCard (.vcf) files can be imported into Address Book/Contacts.
* VCal (.vcs) files can be imported into Date Book/Calendar.
The commercial application Resco Explorer (with which I am not affiliated in any way) can also do much of this, and many more things as well.
[*] Web on the Treo 650 and 700p has a bug; you must install by data type (HTML) instead of by file name extension.
