Pocket Pacemaker Clinic for HanDBase - The package includes a usable (and customizable) database for monitoring pacemakers in an office setting. Thanks to the nice people at St. Jude Medical - Cardiac Rhythm Management Division (especially Daryel Davis and Jerry Hadduck), it includes a lookup table consisting of model number and (BOL) beginning of life and (EOL) end of life characteristics of 1574 different pacemakers that are currently in use. It includes pacemakers from most of the current pacemaker companies including Medtronic, St. Jude Medical, Guidant and Biotronik among others. When you enter a patient in the database, just tap on the Pacemaker model number field or company field to popup the Pacemaker Database and use the HandBase utility to search for the model number or company. Tap on the correct model to load 5 fields of pacemaker information into the patient's record, including company, model number, NBG classification, pacemaker name, demand BOL/EOL features, magnetic BOL/EOL features, magnetic response characteristics, TMT characteristics and estimated longevity in years. Features of PPC 1.0 include fields for the patient's diagnosis, checking interval, date of next check, date of first check, usual magnetic rate and demand rate. The expected heart rate and magnetic rate can be looked up instantly without waiting to have pull a patient's pacemaker chart! In addition if the date of birth and implantation date are entered, then the program will calculate the patient's age, the pacemaker's age and the estimated years till EOL. If you don't add the date of birth or implantation dates, the age defaults to 96, a limitation of HandBase's calculated fields (that will hopefully improve with further updates). Of course the "estimated years till EOL" is a poor and unreliable approximation of the pacemaker's remaining life, but it sure looks neat on the patient's record! Pacemaker checks can be recorded in a separate Pacemaker Checks database that links to the main patient database. A hard copy report of the pacemaker check can be printed out either by exporting the record to Memo, hot-syncing and then printing directly from Palm Desktop program or by other third party printing programs.
