Michigan Road Trips takes us away from the urban sprawl and blandness of big box stores and chain restaurants into what makes the state so exceptional. It can be a ma and pa restaurant where the mashed potatoes are still house made and the cherry pie is from fruit grown just down the road or a cutting edge restaurants where the chef visits the local cheesery to select what's best to serve for dinner that night. It's kayaking along a fast moving river whether its winter or summer, skiing down a Michigan mountain, spending the night in a charming bed and breakfast in a home that dates back two centuries. It's following in the footsteps of Ernest Hemingway whose family roots exist in Northern Michigan to this day, taking a boat down the same river that Hiawatha once paddled, peering through the glass bottom of a boat at shipwrecks from the 19th century.
