San Francisco's North Beach & Wharf - This travel application explores two of San Francisco's most popular areas: North Beach, its vibrant streets lined with cafes, one-of-a-kind shops, bars and restaurants reflecting the area's Italian heritage, and, a few blocks north, Fisherman's Wharf, part of San Francisco's historic waterfront.
Amid the souvenir shops and restaurants catering to the millions of tourists who flock here each year you can still find authentic San Francisco -- the smell of boiling crab and sourdough bread being baked, the feel of the breezes of the bay, the sounds of sea lions barking at Pier 39 and the music of street performers who make their living here.
The wharf is well-known as the location of two of San Francisco's biggest attractions -- Pier 39 and cruises to Alcatraz, the notorious former federal prison.
Photographs, interactive maps, telephone numbers and links to web sites provide the information you'll need to plan your trip, and to use while exploring North Beach and the Wharf.
What's New in This Release:
· There's always something new happening in North Beach and the Wharf. The last few months have seen the opening of new eateries, the exciting new Campaluna, an "American Bistro" in the heart of North Beach, among them. This update also features about 20 new entries that add a greater variety of cafes, restaurants, shops, places to see -- and information on the annual North Beach Festival coming up in June.
