DOF Calculator 7 - A clever photographer would use Depth of Field intelligently to emphasize a specific effect of the main suject of interest by limiting DOF away from confusing background via use of a larger aperture and/or using a smaller aperture to enhance the visual with pin sharp details from near to far (such as scenic, travel , landscape etc.).
Depth of field (DOF) is the portion of a scene that appears acceptably sharp in the image. Although a lens can precisely focus at only one distance, the decrease in sharpness is gradual on each side of the focused distance, so that within the DOF, the unsharpness is imperceptible under normal viewing conditions
