Data connection is required to search prices. Search result speed is based on your phone's network performance.
Realtime barcode scanning is not yet supported by Windows Phone 7 (it's not even in Microsoft Tag) due to lack of developer API support to enable this feature.
The PriceIt! app makes use of highly efficient mobile sites offered by these stores and thus is lightning fast. It does not need to pull down feeds, parse them and waste your time! Alternately you could pin or bookmark these mobile site but you then lose the input keyboard choices and ability to keeping the item linked to quick search across multiple stores!
